Soulslike Mortal Shell made its debut today with a gorgeous, haunting announcement trailer that certainly piqued my interest. The environments look stunning, and really capture the dark fantasy vibe the Dark Souls games are known for. In some ways it seems to have more of a horror-lean than even From Software’s legendary series, which – as a regular Shudder lurker – doesn’t upset me in the slightest.

Hitman GO was a surprise hit when it launched for iOS and Android in 2014, boiling the Hitman series’ stealth mechanics down into a turn-based puzzle game that was loads of fun and very challenging. The horror game Phasmophobia uses unusual speech recognition mechanics, forcing the player to communicate with ghosts through a microphone to discover which species they are. While this is not the first game to listen to a player’s voice, in the context of a horror experience it’s definitely something that sets it apart from the rest of the games. And after the latest update, Phasmophobia advances this ‘eavesdropping’ mechanics.
The ghosts in the game will now hear the player and will appear in rooms where there is a player who is actively speaking. Read More...
