The Dr. Mario Amiibo has been confirmed by Nintendo and other sources to be a Target exclusive. This isn’t hugely surprising news as many signs pointed to the figure being exclusive to the retailer, including the fact that they listed the Dr. Mario Amiibo early in a similar fashion to the way they handled Jigglypuff.
Fans have been rather mixed on how they view retailer exclusive Amiibos at this point. Originally they were almost universally hated, with all of them becoming harder to find than other figures that weren’t exclusive. However, as of late, certain retailers have done a great job of supplying fans with the figures that they want.
Target specifically has done a great job with their latest exclusives. Jigglypuff in particular was astonishing, staying available online for many days, with a few restocks to clear out those that missed it the first few times. Dr. Mario should follow suit as his production run was quite long, resulting in a huge number being available.
One interesting thing to note about this exclusivity is that any mention of it includes the phrase “at launch”. This seems to indicate that Dr. Mario will eventually become available at other retailers, so if you miss it at Target there might still be hope.
With only a few other figures being released in Amiibo Wave 5b the question remains, which of them will also be retailer exclusives? Gamestop snagged the Retro 3-Pack for Wave 6, but will Ganondorf, Zero Suit Samus, or Bowser Jr. become exclusive as well?
