Fallout 4 mods have been available for a while on PC, and came out last month for Xbox One players. Those on PS4 have been left waiting though, with the promise that the feature would hit some time this month. As we are only a day away from the end of June, many were speculating that this promise would be left behind. Today Bethesda has confirmed it, saying that Fallout 4 mods on PS4 have been officially delayed.
Unfortunately they offer little other detail about the situation, simply saying “We regret to say that the PS4 Mods Beta for Fallout 4 has been delayed. We will update everyone when we can.” Most likely they ran into some technical issue getting the feature working on PS4, causing them to devote more time and energy into getting it running.
Fallout 4 mods are pretty new and interesting for consoles, with very few console games offering something like it in the past. Getting the architecture together for such a new thing must be difficult, and we saw problems on Xbox One almost immediately when they launched there.
Bethesda might be trying to avoid a repeat, working out the problems now, before they reach consumers directly. Hopefully the issues are small though, and this delay simply pushes Fallout 4 mods on PS4 into July, rather than a delay of a month or more. We should find out soon, once Bethesda shares the promised details.
