Fumito Ueda Submits a List of Changes for Shadow of the Colossus Remake

The remake of Shadow of the Colossus was one of the biggest surprises of Sony in this past E3. The original game is remembered as one of the most iconic releases for PlayStation 2, and was created by the same author of Ico or PS4’s The Last Guardian. Despite not being directly involved in the remake, Ueda has confirmed that he has submitted a list of changes that he would like to see applied in the remake, in an interview with Eurogamer.

The remake of Shadow of the Colossus is being developed by North American company Bluepoint, which has a vast experience in updating classic games, including the remastered version of Ico and the very same Shadow of the Colossus for PS3. Of course, in this case we are not talking about a simple boost in resolution, but basically rebuilding the game using brand new assets, similar to Activision’s excellent Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.

Ueda has confirmed that he would like to see some things changed in this updated version of the game, but he also understands that it may not be possible to see all of them applied, especially since he is not part of the development team. He did not give any specifics on what these changes could be, since saying anything in public would probably lead to that feature not be included in the game.

He also denied the possibility of seeing the roster of enemies expanded beyond the original group of 16: “In this game there are 16 enemies and there’s a story about 16 enemies.” This seems to support PlayStation chief Shuei Yoshida’s words to Famitsu, when he said that the development team was focused on creating new assets, but the gameplay would remain intact.

The remake of Shadow of the Colossus will be released for PS4 in 2018.
