UPDATE: The bundle, which comes with one controller, is actually available right now.
Despite popping up now and again over the last few months, the Gamecube Adapter for Wii U has still remained fairly scarce across the US. Hopefully the latest news signals an end to the drought as Gamestop has listed a new release date on their website of May 1st. The Gamecube Adapter for Wii U of course launched in November alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, so this seems to indicate a restock heading their way around this time.
Gamestop’s website is listing a new release date of May 1st for the Gamecube Adapter for Wii U
Two big questions hang over any possible restock shipment though. How many will there be, and will they all go to previous preorders. Due to the massive shortage that gamers saw after the initial shipment sold out, many still have unfulfilled preorders. If Gamestop still has some on their books they will likely send these new ones to those customers, leaving little for the rest of us to purchase. This all hinges on the first question though, how many of the units will Nintendo be supplying.
Considering the fact that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has sold over 3 million copies, there is a vast market of gamers ready to buy this accessory. Many have likely given up, and some have been lucky enough to actually get their hands on one of the adapters, but still many more are waiting and hoping that they can find one. Hopefully the restock is large enough and hits enough stores to truly alleviate some of the supply shortages for this product.
