Hasbro has revealed some of the toys that will be available for the release of Captain America: Civil War. We still get the 6 inch and 3.75 inch range of toys, but Hasbro is still selling the 2.5 inch range which looks utterly horrible.
If you live in America, this is fine. You can simply buy the 6 inch or 3.75 inch toys and forget about the cruddy 2.5 inch ones. In my home country of New Zealand however, our toy retailers only stock the 2.5 inch range and this is really disappointing for toy collectors.
It all started with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy. In New Zealand, the 2.5 inch toys were the only ones that were available at toy retailers. If someone like myself wanted a bigger toy of Starlord, I had to visit an overseas website. The only problem is that the shipping costs extra and it gets too expensive to buy it.
Hasbro continued with the 2.5 inch range when when Avengers: Age of Ultron came out in 2015. Again in New Zealand, the 6 inch and 3.75 inch ranges were missing. All we had to buy were the garbage 2.5 inch toys. Before says that these toys are suitable for kids, you are wrong. Toys were never this stupidly small when I was growing up as a kid.
The comparison picture you can see is of an official 2015 Avengers: Age of Ultron toy of Iron Man. On the right side you will see a 2005 toy of Batman in Batman Begins. Both toys are marketed for kids and both of them were the same price. There has to be something wrong here. The Iron Man is 2.5 inches tall while Batman is 5 inches tall. Both figures are owned by my brother by the way.
IGN revealed some of the toys that are coming out for Captain America: Civil War. The 2.5 inch range looks atrocious like always. Look at the featured image at the top of this article. Do you think that looks anything like Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye? The Black Widow 2.5 inch toy also looks just as bad.
The only reason this annoys me is that Hasbro only does this to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We didn’t see 2.5 inch toys from Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. Hasbro also didn’t do this for Jurassic World or its Transformers line. Mattel just recently released Batman vs Superman toys and the most basic toys are 6 inches tall. Thankfully, these 6 inch Batman vs Superman toys are available in New Zealand so kudos for Mattel for not copying Hasbro.
If you want toys for Captain America: Civil War, please don’t buy the 2.5 inch range. They are not worth it. The details and articulation are poor. Heck, even some knock off toys look better than the officially licensed toys that Hasbro has been releasing in the 2.5 inch range.
