Update: It appears an online mode will be in the game, but not as a co-op mode.

The official Zelda twitter page has now confirmed there will be no online co-op multiplayer available in Hyrule Warriors.

The twitter page announced the following about Hyrule Warriors:

“Cooperative play with online is not supported. Please note. You can cooperation play offline using a Game Pad!”

This is slightly sad news for Wii U owners. I’m all for offline multiplayer, but online gaming is a huge part of gaming these days. Usually publishers like EA go the other route and not feature offline multiplayer in favor of online gaming only.

Hyrule Warriors is a spin-off from The Legend of Zelda series. Not only can you play as Link, but Zelda and many other famous characters from the series are playable too. You also have access to many of the famous weapons Link had to use in previous games too.

Multiplayer will add even more fun in Hyrule Warriors, but only if you own a second gamepad. It has been announced previously only two players can play cooperatively offline. You cannot have four players playing Hyrule Warriors simultaneously sadly.

Hyrule Warriors releases exclusively for the Wii U in September. It should still be a fun game despite the lack of online gameplay. If fans demand it, they could patch the game for online play if it’s possible in the future.
