Insomniac’s Wolverine to Be a Full-Sized Game With a Mature Tone

The PlayStation showcase on the 9th of September brought with it a cornucopia of surprises. One of the biggest standouts was Insomniac which had multiple spectacular games to show, including Wolverine which is a game based on the claw-wielding character from Marvel’s X-Men. Recently, Brian Horton, who is a creative director at Insomniac, gave a little more insight into what we can anticipate from Wolverine in terms of its size and tone.

Insomniac looks to replicate Spider-Man success with Wolverine

According to a tweet by Horton, Wolverine will be a full-sized game. Hence, you will not have to worry about your adventures with Wolverine being a shorter experience on par with something like Spider-Man Miles Morales. It seems that Insomniac is taking no half measures with Wolverine, and they intend to deliver a fully fleshed-out game.

Horton also claims that Insomniac plans for Wolverine to be a game with a “mature tone”. Unlike Spider-Man who is often witty and sarcastic, Wolverine is a bit more of a brooding character. He operates as a cold loner, and he can be irreverent at times. Consequently, a more mature, introspective approach is fitting for his character.

The “mature tone” alluded to by Horton may also address a huge elephant in the room – Wolverine’s claws. Unlike many superheroes, Wolverine does his combat up close and personal, and it is a gory event. He can occasionally go into a beserker rage, and anyone standing in his way will soon find themselves turned into fleshy ribbons. It will be interesting to see how Insomniac will translate this into satisfying gameplay, and how far they will be willing to take the gore elements in pursuit of being faithful to the character.

Although details surrounding the game are still sparse, Wolverine is a beloved Marvel character. Therefore, understandably, there is a lot of hype surrounding the game. After the amazing work Insomniac did with Spider-Man, fans of Wolverine can rest assured knowing their favorite blade-slinging antihero is in good hands.

A release date for Wolverine has yet to be announced.
