Blizzard’s Overwatch received a boost in sales in the United Kingdom thanks to all the anniversary discounts and the release of the Game of the Year Edition for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The surge in sales was enough to take the title from its number 16 position last week to number 2 in the All Formats list. Topping the rank for a second week is Warner’s Injustice 2, which is expected to leave the first position next week to another fighting game, Tekken 7.
With the top positions being occupied by previous releases, it’s easy to see that the new games failed to make a strong impression in the market. The highest new entry is Capcom’s Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, a Nintendo Switch exclusive that enters the charts at number 10. Tequila Works’ Rime, an artistic adventure/puzzle game, couldn’t take advantage of its multiplatform release, entering only at number 27. Another Nintendo Switch exclusive, Disgaea 5 Complete, could barely make it to the charts, placing at number 36.
Other honorable mentions include Dishonored 2’s impressive return to the charts, making it all the way to number 8 from outside of the top 40. Sony’s PSVR exclusive Farpoint fell from its number 2 position last week to placing at 19, which is clearly not the worst for a platform with a limited userbase. The same cannot be said about The Surge, which dropped out of the top 40 after entering the charts at number 10 last week.
