The DC Extended Universe may be kicking into high gear in theaters with movies like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad on the horizon, but the once strong line of animated TV series are nearly gone. Young Justice was one of the last to air, before being cancelled, but now a revival campaign has started that even has the backing of the series’ creator.
Greg Weisman has been one of the most prolific names in the animated series industry, with nearly every product he’s worked on being very well regarded. That started with Gargoyles and continued with series like Spectacular Spider-Man, Young Justice, and more recently Star Wars Rebels.
Weisman was a big part of pushing for someone else to pick up Young Justice a few years ago after Cartoon Networked cancelled it following the second season, but we haven’t heard anything in awhile. That was until yesterday when a major revival campaign started up under on Twitter with #RenewYoungJustice.
This hashtag even managed to start trending on Twitter at one point last night with an incredible number of tweets and retweets about bringing the series back. This even led to Weisman getting in on the action and him retweeting a fan’s tweet that gave out Cartoon Network’s address that they can be reached at, where he said to make it a “polite letter, please.” He was also tweeting a lot last night about the topic with responses to many fans.
While the odds of Young Justice being revived by Cartoon Network two years later is unlikely, it would be perfect for a time where DC is dominating with their live action properties, but completely lacking animated series outside of Teen Titans Go! Make sure to voice your support if you want to see the series return, because I know I will be.
